Facebook is starting 2018 with an attempt at a much more candid approach it seems, but it’s not keeping everyone happy – Rupert Murdoch in particular. It has admitted that it fell short in preventing the social media network from being used for foreign meddling in the US presidential election. It’s something News Corp executive chairman Rupert Murdoch remains scathing about.
In his latest comment on the social media platform, he says Facebook should pay publishers for the news content that it serves on its platform in the same way that cable TV networks pay for programming.
The media mogul says: “Facebook and Google have popularised scurrilous news sources through algorithms that are profitable for these platforms but inherently unreliable. Recognition of a problem is one step on the pathway to cure, but the remedial measures that both companies have so far proposed are inadequate, commercially, socially and journalistically.
“There has been much discussion about subscription models but I have yet to see a proposal that truly recognises the investment in and the social value of professional journalism. We will closely follow the latest shift in Facebook’s strategy, and I have no doubt that Mark Zuckerberg is a sincere person, but there is still a serious lack of transparency that should concern publishers and those wary of political bias at these powerful platforms.
“The time has come to consider a different route. If Facebook wants to recognise ‘trusted’ publishers then it should pay those publishers a carriage fee similar to the model adopted by cable companies. The publishers are obviously enhancing the value and integrity of Facebook through their news and content but are not being adequately rewarded for those services. Carriage payments would have a minor impact on Facebook’s profits but a major impact on the prospects for publishers and journalists.”
First Lady’s Office Becomes Political Pawn for Trump, Issues Statement Against Samantha Bee
First lady Melania Trump’s office responded to TBS comedian Samantha Bee’s profane tirade against presidential adviser Ivanka Trump by saying it was an example of an “astounding” double standard.
“The double standard is truly astounding. Time and again the Trump family and members of this Administration are subjected to false reporting, hateful rhetoric and outrageous lies all in the name of freedom of speech or comedy, yet the mainstream media stays silent,” her spokesperson said.
Bee had called Ivanka Trump a “feckless c**t” in a segment targeting her for posting a photo with her daughter over the weekend.
Strangely despite the office of the First Lady, didn’t actually have the First Lady, Melania Trump saying these things, as she is still missing.
BREAKING: Roger Ailes of FoxNews Used System to Spy on Naked Employees
Andrea Tantaros, the former Fox News host, now says in a complaint that her boss at FoxNews, Roger Ailes had a bunch of secret surveillance equipment installed, that included putting cameras in their changing and bathrooms at the company.
The complaint says: “Fox offices are where most Fox female talent, including Ms. Tantaros, disrobed daily from their regular clothing into their on-air attire, sometimes multiple times a day… Upon information and belief Ailes was surreptitiously recording, both through audio and with hidden cameras, Tantaros (and others).”
Also, she alleges that a forensic investigation found malware on both her laptop, and “Fox was using an outdated operating version of [employees’ work BlackBerrys] that enabled them to turn on the microphone and camera of the device at will without the knowledge or consent of the person who had the Blackberry in his or her possession.”
Fox News Employees Caught Passing Holocaust Denial Papers
Fox News is known for their right wing agenda, and there had been rumors for a while that some of the people there were heavily anti-Jewish and Semitic. However, until now, there wasn’t a lot of proof.
However, we found a document hidden on their servers that employees had been passing around and accidentally made its way without a password protection.
The papers were from Eric Hunt, who was convicted of attacking Eli Wiesel years ago. Eric Hunt, 24, had been charged with six felonies related to the Feb. 1, 2007, incident at the Argent Hotel that prosecutors had said was a hate-based attempt to persuade the peace activist to renounce the Holocaust.
The jury found Hunt guilty of two other felony offenses, but the counts were cut to misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor elder abuse after the jury rejected hate crime enhancements for them.
We won’t go into detail, but it’s basically a claim that Elie Wiesel made up the accounts in his book “Night” and that the holocaust never really happened.
