The Bromance between Kanye and the Donald is Over. After months of publicly supporting President Donald Trump, the rapper, 41, tweeted about a possible hiatus from voicing a pro-MAGA rhetoric.
“My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in,” West wrote on Tuesday. “I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative.”
In another tweet, the husband of Kim Kardashian West said: “I would like to thank my family, loved ones, and community for supporting my ACTUAL beliefs and my vision for a better world.”
West’s statements come days after he was rumored to be involved with a political apparel line called “Blexit,” created by conservative commentator Candace Owens, which encourages African-American voters to abandon the Democratic Party.
He singled out Mr Trump’s proposal this week to end accepting asylum requests at the southern border.
Tom Steyer Will Not Run for President
The New York Times reports that the progressive billionaire will announce that he will not run for the White House but will step up his efforts to promote Trump’s impeachment instead.
Mr Steyer began informing aides early this week that he would not be a candidate after all, after concluding that he could have a greater political impact through his impeachment activism, several advisers to Mr Steyer said. Mr Steyer intends to spend at least $40m on impeachment efforts in the coming year – money that might otherwise have been directed toward a campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.
“Most people come to Iowa around this time to announce a campaign for president,” Mr Steyer said in prepared remarks, which were obtained by the New York Times. “But I am proud to be here to announce that I will do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to remove a president.”
In an interview, Mr. Steyer was dismissive of party leaders’ reservations about making impeachment an issue in 2019.
He described Mr. Trump as lawless and unfit for office; acknowledging the practical obstacles to impeachment, he said raising a popular outcry was a necessary first step.
Councilman Williams Criticizes Hochul for Refusing to Debate Him in NYS Lieutenant Governor Race
While the polls continue to show that Andrew Cuomo will most likely be re-elected governor of New York State, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul is facing the hardest race of her life, against very popular Brooklyn City Councilman, Jumaane Williams. However, she has refused to debate Williams, who is of Caribbean descent and running as a progressive Democrat.
Hochul on the other hand is running as an Upstate Conservative Democrat, focused on issues for big business and companies in the north– and has a deeply unfavorable rating amongst NYC Voters according to a poll in April 2018, by Big Dog Strategies, a political consulting firm led by Chris Grant.
Hochul has tried to paint Progressive Jumaane Williams as being “out of touch” with upstate voters, implying that his urban constituency in Brooklyn isn’t representative of New York State. Additionally she has claimed that Williams’ personal Christian religious beliefs are an issue and that as a Caribbean Christian means he would not vote for women’s rights.
This has raised an issue of racism in the debate, with many Caribbean locals in Brooklyn being Christian and people of faith — and voters wondering why Hochul is attacking Jumaane Williams for being a Caribbean Christian.
Internal Polls show a considerable negative rating by NYC African American voters, who see her attacks on Williams as being borderline racist and a dog whistle for the conservative White voters of Upstate New York
Williams didn’t take the insults sitting down, and immediately has show back: “When white Catholics speak about their faith, they’re treated one way. When a black Caribbean immigrant speaks of his faith, he’s treated another way,” Williams told the NY Post.
“Let’s be clear. I support 100 percent a woman’s right to decide to access a safe, legal abortion. That’s what choice is about,” Williams said.
“She has no significant accomplishments to run on. And she has huge issues with immigrants, “ Williams also told the Post, pointing out she had opposed a plan providing hispanic immigrants driver’s licenses in New York — a plan she now says she supports.
“I want to be the people’s lieutenant governor,” Williams has sad. “The city has a public advocate but there’s no public advocate for the state. Governor Cuomo has this progressive cloak and jacket and now that it’s election time, that cloak is on tight. We need that all the time, and we need someone to shine a light on all those issues.”
Mr. Williams is a unique candidate for sure. At 14, he was diagnosed with Tourette’s – and has been the only elected official in New York City to serve with the rare neurological syndrome, and perhaps the only one in the United States.
Indictment: Russians Influenced Minorities To Vote For Bernie Sanders or Not Vote
Hidden in the indictment of the 13 Russian Nationals is a point that may go unnoticed. The indictment says that, among other things, the group of Russian Nations “through their organization began to encourage US Minority Groups not to vote” or to “vote for third party candidates.”
They had used Facebook to buy ads that backed Bernie Sanders and his platform even after his presidential campaign had ended, according to a person with knowledge of the ads. They even created a coloring book ad on Facebook called “Buff Bernie,” filled with “very attractive doodles of Bernie Sanders in muscle poses.”
It added that “I’ve recently heard some hateful comments from the Hillary supporters about Bernie Sanders and his supporters” — language aimed at stirring up the kinds of intra-party divisions that would later flare after the first release of Russian-hacked Democratic Party documents during the summer of 2016.
